Well, memorable it was after the event, but hell mindfuck the event itself was.. If marching 40km was bad enough, try doing it with almost 30kg load and navigating around in that huge piece of junk on your back.. hell tough! The night started off badly as we marched an extra 6km because of a missed checkpoint and it totally brought our morale to an all-time low walking back past teams who are heading to their next checkpoint. Painfully yet strongly, we hung on and carried on despite the bad start and the night just got worse. Around midnight, it was my first ever visit to the cemetery for as long as I could remember and it was 1 hell of an eventful night. A really long story short, 6 hours there, owned by dogs, slept there and finally an epic getaway which concluded the cemetery part.. UNFORGETTABLE! More mindfucks along the way included a brief when we were left with 2 checkpoints that there were 4 more coming up after completing the 2 just compounded our misery. Result: abrasions on both sides of hips, both sides of inner thighs, 3 blisters on right foot, 2 blisters on left foot, aching legs, madly aching shoulders, rashes, mosquito bites.. all just from a 40km walk which almost left me having to crawl back to base.. 3 MORE WEEKSSSSSSSS!
